Janine Turner - Biography
Janine is perhaps best know for her role as the plucky and
independent "Maggie O'Connell" in the Emmy Award
winning CBS series "Northern Exposure" which ran
for six seasons.
Her big screen credits include Robert Altman's Dr. T and
the Women; the international blockbuster, Cliffhanger,
co-starring Sylvester Stallone, the role of June
Cleaver in Universal's Leave it to Beaver, George
Romero's, Monkey Shines, a memorable turn as Olympia
Dukakis' niece, 'Nancy Beth Marmillion in Steel Magnolias,
as well as starring roles in Tai-Pan and Curse of the Inferno.
Janine recently completed two independent features. No Regrets
directed by Curt Hahn. And birdie and Bogie directed by Mike
Norris.
Yet, her most exciting professional achievement to date is
as a director/writer/filmmaker. Janine proudly makes her directorial
debut this year with her short film, Trip in a Summer
Dress(see: "the Making of Trip in a Summer Dress"
included in the press kit.)
Janine also recently competed two and a half seasons on the
hit series, Strong Medicine, produced by Whoopi Goldberg where
she starred as the no-nonsense surgeon 'Dr. Dana Stowe'. Additionally,
Janine has starred in a number of highly rated CBS television
films, including Beauty; Stolen Women:Captured Hearts and
A Secret Affair, as well as the ABC telefilm Circle of Deceit
and Fatal Error for TBS.
Janine has received an Emmy Award nomination and three Golden
Globe Award nominations for her work on Northern Exposure.
She has been named one of People magazine's "50 Most
Beautiful People", one of US magazine's "10 Sexiest
women", and one of the Esquire magazine's"women We
Love". She has received the Women at Work Award from the National
Commission on Working Women and was most recently honored
with the Topaz Award from Women in Film.
Janine lives on a ranch in Texas with her beloved six year
old daughter, Juliette. They share the ranch with their four
horses, five dogs, two birds, one cat and herd of prize-winning
Texas Longhorn cattle. |
